It was either ‘96 or ‘97…a hot summer in Troy, Alabama. 2 goons who shared a similar past had befriended each other, and in the near future would also have a penchant of making long trips with lots of drugs. But for now, it was just 2 cats who liked to ride and smoke.
Many of our convos involved women, the “fairer sex”. And we both had our notions and anecdotes, as well as tryna drop gems of wisdom and shit. One day we were posted up somewhere, and during the middle of one of these convos, the road dawg said: ”A woman can love you…and still leave you…” We talked it over for a while, like we always did, and were in agreement…I eventually countered with “I wonder if a man can do the same?” We were both still “young bucks” at the time, just barely of drinking age, and most of our encounters with the opposite sex had come in the form of cheated on girlfriends and jump-offs, so neither of us could answer.
Fast forward…my road dawg’s no longer with us. Neither of us knew back then, but the convo that we had had actually been a self-fulfilling prophecy…but that’s not what this is about…what this is about is, I found the answer to that question.
A man can love a woman, and still leave her. He’ll put up with as much as he can, but when it’s time to walk away, he’ll walk away, still loving her. That’s what happens when you love someone, but don’t like them anymore. If caught in time, the relationship can still be saved…but once a certain point has been passed…he’ll walk away…just like a woman will walk away under the same circumstances…
Rest In Peace Fred
